July 31, 2024

Barbados Olympian Matthew Wright has finished 34th out of 55 competitors in the Men’s Triathlon at the Paris Olympic Games.

The men’s race was postponed by 24 hours on Tuesday after the water quality in the River Seine failed to meet required standards following heavy rainfall.

It was cleared to take place last night Barbados time after water analysis, received at 9:20 p.m., was deemed compliant by World Triathlon.

The event was won by Alex Yee of Great Britain in one hour, 43 minutes and 33 seconds.

Hayden Wilde of New Zealand took the silver in 1:43:39, and Leo Bergere of France the bronze in 1:43:43.

Wright completed the course in one hour 49 minutes 18 seconds.

He did the swimming leg in 22 minutes 13 seconds; the bike ride in 53 minutes 50 seconds; and the run in 32 minutes two seconds.

Next up for Team Barbados is track and field, with Tristan Evelyn competing in the Women’s 100 metres on Friday.
