West Indies handed New Zealand their first defeat of the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup in dramatic fashion on Friday.
New Zealand finished three runs short of the West Indies’ total of 259 for nine at Bay Oval, as Hayley Matthews’ with 119 powered the Caribbean side after they were sent into bat.
Her knock included 16 4’s and one six, while Chedean Nation chipped in with 36 and Captain Stafanie Taylor, 30.
In the runs chase, bowling from Deandra Dottin with two for two in the final over, denied New Zealand who needed just six runs to win, as the hosts fell short on 256.
Two wickets also went to Matthews, who was named Player of the Match, and Anisa Mohammad.
The Windies women will take on England women on March 8th.
