West Indies defeated South Africa by 28 runs in the first T20 International at Sabina Park in Jamaica.
Chasing 176 for victory, the Proteas were dismissed for 147 in 19.5 overs.
Reeza Hendricks led 87 that included 6-fours and 6-sixes, while Gudakesh Motie took 3 for 25 and Matthew Forde 3 for 27.
Earlier, sent into bat, West Indies posted 175 for eight in their allotted 20 overs.
Home-town boy and stand-in skipper Brandon King top scored with 79 which also included 6-fours and 6-sixes, while Kyle Mayers got 34.
Ottniel Baartman and Andile Phehlukwayo were pick of the bowlers for South Africa with figures of three for 26 and three for 28 respectively.
The second match will be on Saturday.
