Tight security for T20 Cricket World Cup

May 3, 2024

Regional security officials are monitoring potential threats to next month’s T20 World Cup.

The issue surfaced publicly following the circulation of a document on social media.

It indicated that the CARICOM Implementation Agency for Crime and Security (IMPACS) had received information of a potential security threat to the games from the pro-Islamic State.

It states that an ISIS media group, Nashir Pakistan, called for attacks against the tournament via a post on its social media and chat channels.

The World Cup final is scheduled to be held at Kensington Oval in Barbados on June 29, however, the tournament gets underway on June 1.

Attorney General Dale Marshall says he has seen the document circulating, however nothing has come to him officially from CARICOM IMPACS.

This morning he issued a statement promising tight security for the games.

Overall, Mr. Marshall is satisfied with the security arrangements for the T20 Cricket World Cup.
