A half century from South Africa opener Quinton De Kock set the stage for an exciting seven run victory over England in a Group 2 match of the Super 8 stage of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in St. Lucia.
Sent into bat South Africa posted 163-6, led by De Kock’s 65 off 38 balls, inclusive of four 4’s and four 6’s.
David Miller supported with 43, while Jofra Archer took 3-40.
In reply Harry Brook gave England a fighting chance with 53 off 37, but in the end they came up short on 156-6.
There were two wickets a piece for Keshav Maharaj and Kagiso Rabada.
With that victory South Africa move to four points and are now on the brink of qualification for the semi-finals, having won both of their Super 8 matches so far.
England return to Barbados to play the United States on Sunday and a win would still put them in a strong position to progress.
Meanwhile the Windies head into tonight’s game against the USA knowing that their World Cup hangs in the balance with nothing less than a victory required.
Head Coach Daren Sammy remains positive about reaching the final on June 29.
Live coverage of West Indies vs the USA is set for 8:30 on MCTV’s ESPN channel 308 and radio station 94.7 FM.
