West Indies batsman Shai Hope has been nominated for the ICC Men’s ODI Cricketer of the Year Award.
He scored 709 runs in 21 matches in the period under review.
Since 2017, Hope has finished every year as West Indies’ highest run-scorer in ODIs. 2022 was no different as once again he was one of the few shining stars for the West Indies in a difficult year.
Hope did not get off to the greatest of starts in 2022 but in typical fashion started to grind out runs in the latter half, including three 100s and two 50s, at an average of 35.45.
The other nominees are batsman Babar Azam of Pakistan; spinner Adam Zampa of Australia; and all-rounder Sikandar Raza of Zimbabwe.
Meanwhile, the nominees for the Women’s ODI Cricketer of the Year are pacer Shabnim Ismail of South Africa; all-rounder Amelia Kerr of New Zealand; England’s all-rounder Nat Sciver; and wicketkeeper-batter Alyssa Healy of Australia.
