West Indies decline in cricket, especially the white ball format, is cause for concern.
That’s the word from CEO of the Caribbean Premier League Pete Russell, as the countdown to the region’s premier T20 tournament begins.
The 11th edition of the Republic Bank CPL runs from August 16 to september 24 and will be played in St. Lucia, St. Kitts, Barbados, Trinidad and Tobago and Guyana.
Internationally, the Windies are 10th in the ICC ODI standings and 7th in the ICC T20 table.
In an exclusive interview with CBC Sports, Russell says West Indies’ failure to reach the 2023 World Cup final is mystifying, considering the level of talent in the team.
Russell also says the CPL can only provide high quality competition, but it’s left to Cricket West Indies to further develop the players.
