The 33rd Olympiad, Paris 2024 has officially begun.
The opening was Friday, and Team Barbados was part of the 205 delegations who were ushered into the ceremony via a boat along the River Seine.
Team Barbados was represented by flag bearers Sada Williams, and Jack Kirby, fellow Olympians Matthew Wright, and Tristan Evelyn, Track and Field Manager Dr. June Caddle, Medic Dr. Carl Ward, and Physiotherapist Alicia Brewster.
After the floating parade, the athlete delegations disembarked and walked to the gardens, situated right next to the famous Eiffel Tower, where the ceremony continued with the lighting of the Olympic Flame, involving several past and present Olympians from different countries.
The 2024 Paris Olympics will involve around 10,500 athletes, including a refugee team.
