September 21, 2024

St. Lucia Kings crushed table-toppers Barbados Royals by seven wickets this morning to clinch a playoff spot in the 2024 Republic Bank Caribbean Premier League.

Playing at the Providence Stadium in Guyana, the Kings restricted the Royals to a subpar total of 96 for nine from their 20 overs.

Player of the Match Alzarri Joseph took 4-22 and Roston Chase 3-18, while Jason Holder and David Miller top scored with 21 runs apiece.

The Kings then made light work of the target reaching 97-3 in 13.5 overs.

Chase led with an unbeaten 39.

For now, the Kings leapfrogged both Guyana Amazon Warriors and Trinbago Knight Riders to move to the second spot on the table.

Meantime, hosts Guyana Amazon Warriors inflicted a seventh defeat on the St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots in last night’s CPL match.

The Warriors beat the Patriots by 30 runs at Providence to boost their own chances of progression in this year’s competition.

Electing to field first, the Patriots restricted their opponents to 137 for eight, with Ashmead Nedd taking four wickets for 25.

Player of the Match Shimron Hetmyer led with 63, assisted with 34 not out from Romario Shepherd.

Then despite 49 off 46 balls from Evin Lewis at the top of the order, the Patriots never truly looked like pulling off the victory and were bowled out for 107 in 18.3 overs.

Shamar Joseph took three wickets, while two apiece went to Moeen Ali and Imran Tahir.
