Barbados’ hopes of qualifying for the Concacaf Under-20 Championship were dashed last night as the Young Tridents suffered a hard-fought 1-0 defeat to Curacao in Guatemala.
Playing in their second group match of the qualifying tournament, Barbados dominated the 90-minute contest but failed to get what would have been a well-deserved result.
The Young Tridents were awarded a penalty in the sixth minute when winger Shamari Harewood was brought down in the box, but Khalil Vanderpool-Nurse failed to convert from the spot.
Barbados were then made to pay for that miss in the 31st minute when Luigi Inesia scored for Curacao with a header from a corner.
