Barbados-born basketballer Hason Ward has signed an NBA exhibit-10 contract with the Boston Celtics for the 2024-2025 season.
The former Lester Vaughn school student, who resided in St. Thomas, will be with Boston’s G-league affiliate, the ‘Maine Celtics’, to start the year.
Ward who is 6 feet 9 inches tall, and plays centre position started his U.S college career at Virginia Commonwealth University, before transferring to Iowa State for his final two seasons.
He participated in four pre-draft workouts before being picked up by the Sacramento Kings for the NBA summer league.
This past summer, he made his professional debut as he played 13 games with the Scarborough shooting stars in the Canadian League, where he averaged 1.5 blocks per game, and shot 65.2% from the field.
President of the Barbados Amateur Basketball Association Francis Williams says it’s a great achievement and serves as an inspiration to others.
