Barbadian ocean rower Philip Als was recently one of three finalists nominated for the Spirit of the Caribbean Black Honour Awards in the United Kingdom.
Als, who rowed into the history books and the Guinness Book of Records by becoming one of the first Barbadians to successfully cross the Atlantic in the 2003 Woodvale Atlantic Rowing Challenge along with fellow rower Randal Valdez, was recognised by Event Connoisseurs Limited for being the first Barbadian and the oldest person to row the Artic last year in the Northwest Passage Expedition.
The winner of the Award was Rianna Patterson – the founder of the Dominica Dementia Foundation.
