System to bring ‘warmer days’

The Barbados Meteorological Services is closely monitoring the progress of an area of disturbed weather near 11N 49W, about 695 miles / 1120km to the east-southeast of Barbados at 11:00 a.m. today, Monday, July 29, 2024.

On its current track, this feature is expected to pass to the north of Barbados around Wednesday this week. As a result, no direct impacts are currently expected.

Environmental conditions remain unfavorable for significant development of the system in the coming days, hence, no direct weather impacts are forecast for Barbados. Indirect impacts include a reduction of wind speeds from Tuesday, July 30, 2024 through until Thursday, August 1, 2024. This will result in warmer days with increased heat stress for Barbadians. In addition, some isolated afternoon showers during this period are also anticipated.

There are no watches or warnings associated with this system in effect for Barbados. The public is encouraged to monitor the BMS, DEM, and GIS websites, their respective social media pages, and the local media networks for further updates over the coming days.
