The Small Craft Warning remains in effect for Barbados.
A Small Craft Warning has been issued in this case for sea swells greater than 3 metres (10 feet) which are affecting or forecast to affect the marine area within the next 36 hours.
The Barbados Meteorological Services says due to a robust Atlantic high-pressure system generating strong winds across the region, swell heights are elevated, mainly along the northern and eastern coasts.
These conditions will persist through the remainder of the week and into the weekend with a peak in wind speeds of 20 to 30 knots and swell heights of 2.5 to 3.5 metres occurring through Thursday, January 25, 2024.
The BMS warns that large open water swells can be hazardous to some vessels and the operation of smaller vessels can be difficult at times due to large swells.
This alert will be updated at 6:00 a.m. on Friday, January 26, 2024 or sooner if conditions warrant.
