Northern, northeastern and central districts under Flash Flood Watch

October 5, 2024

A Flash Flood Watch is now in effect for parts of St. James, St. Thomas, St. Peter, St. Andrew, St. Joseph and St. Lucy and St. John.

The Barbados Meteorological Services says light winds along with daytime heating could trigger between 1 and 3 inches of rainfall and thunderstorm activity this afternoon. As a result, a Flash Flood Watch has been issued for some northern, northeastern and central districts. These conditions are expected to improve during the late evening and into tonight.

The BMS says there’s the possibility of moderate to significant soil erosion on bared or scarred land surfaces, water settlements on roads and fields which may lead to commuting delays and isolated diversions.

There may also be increases in water levels of existing water bodies and marginally invasive excess water on roads, fields, storm drains/water canals and on property.

The public should be aware that this alert level could elevate to red, and is encouraged to monitor official sources for further updates.

The Flash Flood Watch will be terminated at 6:00 p.m. or sooner if conditions warrant.
