US extends support to Grenada, SVG after Hurricane Beryl

July 3, 2024

The US has announced immediate humanitarian support for communities in Grenada and St. Vincent and the Grenadines impacted by Hurricane Beryl.

The announcement by US Ambassador Roger Nyhus comes in response to a direct request for assistance from their governments.

A statement from the US Embassy Bridgetown notes the Ambassador released a declaration of humanitarian need within hours of Hurricane Beryl’s passage through the Eastern Caribbean.

This triggers the release of funding, administered by the Red Cross, to support those affected by the disaster in the two countries.

The statement says USAID has disaster experts on the ground, supporting damage assessments and notes that in anticipation of the hurricane’s landfall, the US pre-positioned supplies in the region to ensure a swift response, allowing for an expedited delivery of aid and support.

Ambassador Nyhus says the US and Embassy Bridgetown stand in solidarity with the people of Grenada and St. Vincent and the Grenadines during this challenging time, and they are committed to providing the necessary support to help these communities recover and rebuild.
