CMC – Two Nigerians were among four foreigners arrested when members of the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) Coast Guard seized just over 1,200 pounds of marijuana in an operation conducted off the coast of the southern parish of St. Elizabeth earlier this week.
According to the JDF, Coast Guard personnel reportedly intercepted the vessel in local waters while on air patrol and on searching the vessel, they found 20 large bags of marijuana.
The authorities say the seizure represents a major dent in the illicit drugs-for-guns trade.
The JDF said 1,272 pounds of the drug could be used to purchase up to 15 rifles or 30 pistols.
