Jamaica’s Prime Minister Andrew Holness has since declared the island to be a disaster area for the next seven days ahead of Beryl.
Tropical storm conditions are spreading across Jamaica with hurricane conditions expected during the next several hours.
Yesterday, before an islandwide curfew took effect citizens were out and about making urgent and necessary preparations for the arrival of the system.
Hurricane warnings are in effect for that island along with the Cayman Islands.
Beryl at 11 this morning was located about 75 miles southeast of Kingston, Jamaica and about 365 miles east-southeast of Grand Cayman.
Maximum sustained winds are 145 miles per hour.
Beryl is presently moving west-northwestward at 18 miles per hour.
