An official flag raising was among the activities today as CARICOM marked its 50th anniversary.
National flags of all 15 members were raised outside the Chaguaramas Convention Centre.
Following that, official tributes were made to representatives of foreign governments and heads of international organisations for their contributions to CARICOM.
CARICOM leaders also locked messages in a time capsule to be opened in another 50 years.
Other activities planned to mark CARICOM’s 50th anniversary include a special concert to be held at the National Academy for the Performing Arts.
Incoming Chairman of CARICOM and Dominica’s Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit in a wide-ranging address focused on climate change and the region’s efforts to bring attention to the challenges countries face.
