Staff at the University of the West Indies Cave Hill Campus were off the job today having been given the greenlight by their representative, the Barbados Workers Union.
Their action comes in response to the University’s continued non-fulfilment of financial obligations, despite assurances made in conjunction with the Ministry of Public Service.
General Secretary Toni Moore and the top brass of the Union stood in solidarity with workers today as they vented their grievances.
She gave some insight regarding what caused the strike.
The General Secretary says the University was trying to give the assurance it would go ahead with the release of the funds once received.
However, this did not materialise.
