Local import and distribution company Armstrong Agencies Ltd. has issued an urgent food recall notice for some Quaker Oats products.
In a release the company, which is the authorised distributor for Quaker Oats in Barbados, noted the recall of specific types of granola products is due to a potential contamination with Salmonella.
The products identified by Quaker which Armstrong Agencies distributes are as follows:
- Quaker Oatmeal Squares Cinnamon, 14.5 oz – Best before date Jan 11, 2024 – Oct 1, 2024
- Quaker Oatmeal Squares Brown Sugar 14.5 oz – Best before date Jan 11, 2024 – Oct 1, 2024
- Quaker Simply Granola Oats, Honey & Almond Cereal 24.1 oz – Best before date – Sep 1, 2024 and any earlier date
- Quaker Simply Granola Oats, Honey, Raisins & Almond Cereal 24.1 oz – Best before date Jun 3, 2024 and any earlier date.
The company says it has reached out to all retailers who purchased these products from Armstrong Agencies and removed the items from retail shelves.
It has advised any consumers in possession of the listed products to return them to the original store of purchase.
Salmonella is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy individuals infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain.
To date, Quaker says it has not received any reports of illness related to the products covered by this market withdrawal.
