Tropical Storm Cindy expected to weaken

June 24, 2023

The Met Office says at 5:00 a.m., the centre of Tropical Storm Cindy was located near 14.6N 51.2W, approximately 565miles (908km) to the east of Barbados. Tropical Storm Cindy is presently moving towards the west-northwest (300 degrees) at 15mph (24km/h) with maximum sustained winds of 60mph (95km/h) and a minimum central pressure of 1001mb.

Since the last update, Tropical Storm Cindy has strengthened slightly, as sea surface temperatures have been sufficiently warm for favourable development. However, the BMS says that window for Cindy to further strengthen is coming to an end, as vertical wind shear and mid-level dry air entrainment are forecast to weaken the system.

The model consensus agrees that Tropical Storm Cindy will continue to track to the northeast of the island chain, before weakening early next week.

No watches or warnings are in effect for Barbados with respect to Tropical Storm Cindy. In addition, the BMS says on this forecast track Cindy will not pose any threat to Barbados.

However, the public is encouraged to continue monitoring updates from official sources.

The next update will be at 11:00 a.m. today.
