The tropical wave in the Atlantic has developed into Tropical Depression Two.
The Barbados Meteorological Services (BMS) says the Tropical Depression has shown significant signs of organisation over the past few hours. It says the system is likely to be upgraded to a tropical storm by tomorrow as it moves towards the west at 17mph (28km/h). A Tropical Storm Watch may be issued by tomorrow morning.
The Depression is currently located near 9.1N 41.9W or 1225 miles/1970 km east-southeast of Barbados.
Maximum sustained winds are near 35 mph (55km/h). Model consensus continues to track the system just south of Barbados early Monday, July 1, 2024.
The system is expected to affect Barbados late Sunday night, June 30 into Monday, July 1, 2024. As a result, there is the possibility of flash flooding and storm-force winds impacting the island during that time. Additionally, Small Craft and High Surf Warnings are currently in effect for above-normal sea swells.
The public is encouraged to monitor official sources for further updates.
This information statement will be updated at 11:00 p.m.
