Timelines given for private sector-led ferry service

Connect Caribe, a private sector-led regional ferry service company, is still aiming to start part of its planned service this year.

The company, which launched in January 2024, is confident its services will be a game changer in the regional transportation industry.

Barbados is among several of the islands in the Caribbean to be serviced, along with Guyana and Suriname in South America.

Vice President of Corporate Communications and Strategic Partnerships, Jennifer Highland, provided an update on possible timelines for its cargo and passenger service on CBC TV8’s Mornin’ Barbados.

Connect Caribe is planning a stakeholder consultation forum later this month, where further insight into its business model will be shared.

Vice President of Ship Operations and Crew Management, Richard Alleyne says such a service is in demand, as countries remain separated by the Caribbean Sea.
