Teaching at the Samuel Jackman Prescod Institute of Technology was also called off as a result of the work stoppage.
Principal, Ian Drakes, confirmed the closure, although some students turned up for class.
Classes at the Barbados Community College were not impacted as students are set to resume after the christmas break tomorrow.
Staff at the institution were however expected to attend work today.
