The Small-Craft advisory for Barbados has been upgraded to a Small-Craft Warning.
Winds of 20-25 knots (35-45 km/h) have been generated by a strong Atlantic high-pressure system in combination with a low-pressure system in the North Atlantic across the eastern Caribbean.
These conditions should continue for the rest of the week as sea conditions have deteriorated over the last 24 hours.
In a statement released the Barbados Meteorological Services stated that further deterioration in swell heights of above 3.0m and winds of 20 to 30 knots (35 to 55km/h) from Wednesday is forecast.
Due to large open water swells it can be dangerous for vessels and the operation of small vessels.
A small-craft warning is issued when sustained winds of 25-33 knots and/or sea swells greater than 3 metres (greater than 10 feet) and/or reduced visibility (less than 5 km) are affecting or forecasted to affect the marine area within the next 36 hours.
This alert message is valid from noon today and will be updated by noon tomorrow or sooner if conditions warrant.
