At the age of 21, 2023 Tune of the Crop champion, Quan De Artist, is already focusing on Crop Over 2024 and beyond.
Still basking in the glow of victory with his song ‘Waistline’, he tells CBC News he’s determined to continue to bring music that spans a cross section of generations.
Not to be confused with former Pic O De Crop Monarch Quon, Quan De Artist, real name Jaquan Headley says while he has enjoyed elevated prominence and success during this year’s Crop Over season, he has actually been in the entertainment business for about eight years doing different kinds of music.
The young artist says he writes all of his music, noting that being able to do that aids him in getting in the zone in his creative process.
With the Tune of the Crop win now in the bag, he says the sky is the limit, as he already has a booking in Canada and is looking to secure gigs at other venues around the world through his overseas management.
Quan says he truly loves what he does and has an appreciation and respect for music from all eras.
He also says it is important to know your audience, and to be able to adjust, depending on the location and the occasion.
