A Severe Dust Haze Warning and a Small Craft Advisory are in effect for Barbados, as a moderate to thick layer of Saharan Dust Haze continues to affect the island and its marine area.
The Barbados Meteorological Services says a Saharan Dust Plume began to affect Barbados on Monday. The plume had peak concentrations overnight with another peak concentration expected tonight. Visibility has been reduced to 10km today and further deterioration of 5km forecast for tonight with a gradual improvement on Christmas Day.
This plume of dust haze will peak tonight into tomorrow, and skies may appear slightly yellowish during the day.
The BMS says advice provided by the Ministry of Health and Wellness should be followed.
Marine users and small craft operators should also follow the advice of the relevant authorities.
The public is encouraged to monitor official sources for further updates.
This Severe Dust Haze Warning and Small Craft Advisory will be terminated at noon on Wednesday, December 25, 2024.
