With the festive Christmas season upon us, the Diabetes and Hypertension Association of Barbados wants Barbadians to remember moderation is the buzzword.
Its president, Trudi Griffith revealed there is a tendency to see more people presenting with diabetes after the holidays.
Ms. Griffith was a guest on CBC TV8’s Morning Report
There’s a call for more people to get tested for diabetes so that the true picture of its prevalence locally is known.
Ms. Griffith says the global numbers as of 2021 were at 537 million people and in Barbados, up to 2019, 20% of our adult population was estimated to be living with diabetes.
She, however, says the figure could be higher because people don’t get checked until too late.
There are also concerns about diabetes in the juvenile population.
