Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley has met with the Chinese President, Xi Jinping on her official visit to China.
She was among four prime ministers, including the leader of New Zealand and the prime ministers of Mongolia and Vietnam to meet with President Xi in Beijing on Tuesday.
President Xi, during the interaction, hailed Barbados as a good friend and partner in the Caribbean.
He says the two countries, although separated by oceans, share common goals and have worked hand in hand to deepen the bilateral relations.
He notes China fully understands the concerns of Barbados and other small developing island states about climate change, and stands ready to continue to strengthen South-South cooperation and provide assistance and support.
Prime Minister Mottley arrived in Beijing on Saturday afternoon for a four-day official visit to China.
She says she deeply felt the solidarity and friendship between Barbados and China during the visit, and thanked China for its valuable assistance in Barbados’ response to COVID-19 and its economic and social development.
