The island’s Environment Ministry is on a mission to reduce plastic pollution in a bid to save lives.
That is the word from Environment Minister Adrian Forde.
He says it is necessary as different substances are released into the environment and ecosystems when plastics degrade.
Action is necessary he says as the island and other states continue to face a triple planetary crisis coupled with four hundred million tonnes of plastics dumped annually worldwide.
His comments came during a news conference at his Warrens Towers two offices this morning.
The Ministry will continue its series of outreaches in schools and communities to encourage behaviour change from target groups.
Additionally, through the Environmental Protection Department, an assessment of plastic waste on the island will soon be conducted.
Department head, Anthony Headley, says this will be funded through a six-figure grant secured from the Basel Convention Plastic Waste Partnership (PWP).
