Barbados is proceeding with plans to boost its milk production capacity.
Minister of Agriculture, Food and Nutritional Security Indar Weir will be meeting with farmers soon to discuss addressing the reduction in milk supply caused by the heat.
He says Government intends to provide players in the industry with incentives to help them increase hay production, improve farming facilities, and import a projected 320 pregnant heifers
The Minister added that while provisions are being made to import the heifers, measures are being taken to ensure bird flu does not accompany them to the island’s shores.
