New technology is on the way to help Barbados and the wider Caribbean eradicate mosquitoes, including the Aedes aegypti which causes dengue.
The device, the Renewable Energy powered Silent Terminator or REST, is an initiative of the Cave Hill Campus of the University of the West Indies, where they won an award for innovation at the inaugural UWI Innovate competition.
This is in keeping with the thrust of the UWI Triple A Strategy Phase 2, the Revenue Revolution.
Director of the Centre for Biosecurity Studies Dr. Kirk Douglas provided insight into the technology and how it works on CBC TV8s Morning Report.
He suggests mosquitoes are encroaching on new areas as a result of climate change.
