New rules for Barbadians entering the UK from January

September 13, 2024

From January next year, travellers from Barbados and other Caribbean countries entering the United Kingdom will only be permitted to do so with an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA).

The changes apply to visitors from Canada, the United States and 47 other countries who do not require a visa.

Head of the Political Section and Communications with the British High Commission Simon Harris tells CBC News the decision forms part of the post-Brexit reforms to strengthen border security and manage migration flows more effectively.

The cost of the document is £10.00 or $13.00 US and is valid for 2 years or until the passport expires if it is less.

The ETA allows multiple trips to the UK during its validity.

The holder of the passport will be able to visit the UK for up to 6 months for tourism, to visit family and friends, for business, for short term study or to transit through the country.

Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade Kerrie Symmonds says the announcement does not come as a surprise to him, but rather he views it as a continuum.
