New Opposition Senator sworn in

August 29, 2024

Andre Worrell – the Acting President of the Democratic Labour Party has been appointed as the new Opposition Senator in the Upper House.

He replaces Tricia Watson.

Mr. Worrell was sworn in this morning in the presence of the Acting President of Barbados, the Very Reverend Dr. Jeffrey Gibson at State House.

Opposition Leader Ralph Thorne and fellow DLP Senator, Ryan Walters were on hand for the occasion.

Mr. Thorne, during his maiden address at the DLP’s 69th annual conference on Sunday, had made it known a new Senator would be named as he announced his shadow cabinet.

Mr. Worrell is no stranger to the Senate having served in the Upper House in the previous administration of late Prime Minister David Thompson.

Worrell, the DLP spokesman on health, intends to be a voice for Barbadians.

Opposition Leader Ralph Thorne, in welcoming Senator Worrell, insists the selection of the new Senator should not be seen as a reward but his recognition of leadership in the DLP.

He adds he looks forward to his contribution.
