A fresh round of COVID-19 vaccination could be on the horizon, if the Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA) has its way.

CARPHA wants Barbados and other Caribbean Community (CARICOM) states to make firm decisions about breathing new life into COVID-19 immunisation programmes with new omicron specific vaccines being made available.

This, as statistics are showing a rise in cases with new Omicron variants entering the picture.

CARPHA’s Executive Director, Dr. Joy St. John is concerned the level of immunity against COIVID-19 has waned in Barbados and across the region.

She spoke to CBC News on the heels of a recent visit to St. Kitts and Nevis.

There she updated Prime Minister, The Honourable Dr. Terrance Drew on regional public health matters with a particular focus on COVID-19, as he holds responsibility for health in CARICOM.

Meanwhile, Dr. St. John shed some light on other urgent matters related to the new Omicron specific vaccines.
