New Grand Kadooment route is it

November 9, 2022

When it comes to ‘jumping’ for Grand Kadooment, the new Warrens to National Stadium route  got the nod of the majority of people who took part in a survey the National Cultural Foundation (NCF) commissioned in September.

Although by a slim margin, 52.73 per cent of all respondents preferred the revelry going from Warrens up the ABC Highway to the Emancipation Statue, then down the ABC Highway to the National Stadium.

This was compared to the years-old way from the National Stadium to Mighty Grynner Highway (formerly Spring Garden Highway).

NCF released the findings of the independent survey that was conducted via various online channels, direct texting and phone calls.

Three categories of stakeholders were polled – masqueraders (57.24 per cent), spectators (36.65 per cent), vendors (6.11 per cent) – and all three groups preferred the new route.

Plus, the Grand Kadooment Sweet Lime and After Party held at the Botanical Gardens was a hit, with 83.86 per cent of those surveyed calling for its return next year.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office with Responsibility for Culture, Dr. Shantal Munro-Knight thanked all participants in the survey, saying it offered invaluable input that will help shape the way forward for the annual Crop Over Festival.

“Having promised to get back to you, I am now pleased to share with the public key results coming out of the Crop Over Festival Grand Kadooment survey. It was a valuable and informative exercise that helps us as we go to the drawing board and conceptualise what Crop Over 2023 will look like,” she said. (NCF/SNR)
