Residents of Emerald Park West have expressed shock after the murder of a neighbour and the apparent attempted suicide of her husband this morning.
Stressing that the couple seemed “nice,” they offered condolences to the family of the woman who lost her life.
Police Communications and Public Affairs Officer, Inspector Rodney Inniss, says the victim is a woman believed to be in her 50s.
The suspect who is reportedly in his 70s, was taken for medical attention after allegedly ingested a poisonous substance.
A full statement from the Barbados Police Service follows:
“Police from the southern division responded to a residence at Emerald Park West, St. Philip after receiving a report via a telephone call at the Operations Control Room about 455 am on Friday 20th September 2024.
The nature of the call was that a domestic dispute between a man and a woman was in progress and that a female was believed to be dead at the scene.
Police responded to the scene and on arrival were pointed to an area of a residence where the motionless body of a female was found.
One male is assisting with our investigations into this matter. He allegedly ingested a poisonous substance and was transported to the hospital for medical attention.
Investigations are ongoing.”
