The Ministry of Education, Technological and Vocational Training has reassured the public that it is committed to addressing the growing concern of violence in schools across the island.
It says one way it has sought to address the issue, is through an increase in Student Support Services Unit officers.
Since November 2020, the number of officers has increased from 12 to 33.
Included in the increase are Primary School Social Workers, Secondary School Counsellors and School Safety Officers.
The Ministry says the Secondary School Counsellors and the Safety Officers are assigned primarily to schools that stakeholder consultation identified as the most problematic.
Additionally, METVT says it has engaged parents in effective parenting skills programmes and as recently as February this year 225 parents and students participated in a Ministry-led initiative that sought to enhance parenting skills.
