General Secretary of the Barbados Workers Union, Toni Moore, is suggesting that tourism become a year-long enterprise.
She believes this will allow workers in that sector to be employed throughout the year, adding that the business of short-hour contracts is one that must be fixed. Ms. Moore was speaking during the Barbados Workers’ Union 82nd Annual Delegates’ Conference at Solidarity House.
The union boss says they have always negotiated around seasonality, noting that layoffs come every year in the sector for many establishments. She is however urging workers to join the union, reminding them that there is strength in unity.
