Lack of positive male role models

Probation Officer Owen Birch is raising concerns that the country is losing too many young males to the criminal justice system because they have no positive father figures in their lives.

In fact, Mr. Birch says many of these young men appear to be looking in the wrong places for male role models.

He was speaking during the Eagle Hall Primary School’s Male Week 2024 panel discussion themed ‘Bridging the Gap from Boys to Men’.

Birch added that in an effort to address the issue, Government, through various agencies and programmes has been trying to engage fathers at various levels to get them to understand their parental responsibilities.
