Knife discovered in bag of primary school student

A knife discovered in the possession of a male student resulted in a brief disruption of classes at the St. Catherine’s Primary School today.

CBC understands the weapon was found in his bag.

The incident caused much concern among students, teachers and other staff at the St. Philip school.

Officials from the Ministry of Education, Technological and Vocational Training visited the institution.

Pressed for a comment on the incident, Communications Consultant with the Ministry, Gaynelle Marshall, said due to the sensitive nature of the event, the Ministry cannot go into any further details other than to say the situation is under control.

The incident comes just days after the Education Ministry urged parents and guardians to search their children’s bags for weapons.
