November 1, 2024

Members of the island’s judiciary should now be better equipped to deal with matters of competition law, public procurement and customs, and trade facilitation.

This forms part of a project of the 11th European Development Fund Support to CARIFORUM member states.

It furthers the implementation of their economic partnership agreement commitments, to ensure competition remains robust under regional and international treaties.

Participants will be lectured to by Professor Emeritus and former France Supreme Court Judge Frederic Jenny.

The EU’s Delegation to Barbados, Head of Cooperation, David Mogollon says this training will enhance the capacity for national and regional judicial personnel to resolve competition law-related disputes.

He says to date, over 13 people have benefitted from training and best practices in the subject area, with one person being awarded a scholarship for a graduate certificate in customs administration.

Mr. Mongollon also says several other programmes are being implemented across the region, including the Europe Latin American and Caribbean programme of assistance against transnational organised crime in the Caribbean.
