Former government minister, Donville Inniss has lost his appeal before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit to overturn a conviction for laundering bribes.
Inniss argued that there was insufficient evidence for his money laundering convictions.
However the Court, in a six page document, ruled Inniss’ arguments are unavailing and without merit.
The Appeals Court also rejected arguments the jury’s instructions were faulty.
Inniss, the former Minister of Industry, was sentenced last year to 24 months in prison for laundering bribes he received from a Barbadian insurance company through a U.S. bank.
Evidence presented at trial showed in 2015 and 2016, Inniss took part in a scheme to launder into the U.S. approximately $36,000 in bribes he had received from executives of the insurance company to help secure two government contracts.
