An education official is stressing the importance of being able to spell and its correlation with reading and writing abilities.
Education Officer in the field of reading and literacy at the Ministry of Education, Technological and Vocational Training Janelle Little says this is particularly critical in a child’s overall development.
She has called on children and by extension parents to take spelling competitions for children seriously, stressing that history has shown that the children participating in these exercises attain higher academic results.
Ms. Little made the remarks during the recent launch of the 2023 ICBL National Junior Spelling Bee.
She welcomed the fact that there were reports of increasing numbers showing interest in the competition.
