The Barbados Labour Party is proposing an increase in the number of members of Parliament and the Senate.
While the BLP supports Barbados maintaining a bicameral system and remaining a Parliamentary democracy, Minister of People Empowerment and Elder Affairs, Kirk Humphrey says there must be some changes.
No set number has however been settled on for Parliamentarians, that will include national MPs and an independent Speaker.
The Prime Minister will be chosen from among the seven national MPs.
The proposals were put forward as the Parliamentary Reform Commission met with members of the BLP.
Mr. Humphrey says the current size of the Upper House will be increased from 21 to 24.
Among the independent Senators will be a representative from business, labour and the church, a youth representative, one representing the elderly along with the disabled community.
He says the BLP recognises there is need for a stronger voice from the Opposition.
It was also recommended that members who are elected to Parliament and cross the floor should return to the electorate and through the process of a by-election.
