Increase in early stage breast cancer diagnoses

August 20, 2024

An increasing number of Barbadian women are being diagnosed with early stage breast cancer.

Word of this is coming from Medical Coordinator for the Barbados Cancer Society, Dr. Shirley Jhagroo who says patients with positive diagnoses ranging from stage 0-2 have a 98 to 100 percent five year survival rate.

Dr. Jhagroo was addressing the launch of the CIBC Walk for the Cure 2024.

This year’s event will take place on Sunday, October 6, starting outside CIBC’s Corporate Head Office, Warrens, St. Michael.

There will be the 5k run which starts at 3:50 p.m. and the 5k walk commences ten minutes later at 4:00 p.m.

T-shirts may be purchased from the Breast Cancer Society, Henry’s Lane, Lower Collymore Rock or at one of the CIBC Caribbean pop-ups.

Managing Director, Barbados Operating Company, CIBC Caribbean, Donna Wellington says since beginning in 2012, Walk for the Cure has raised over US$4 million across the Bank’s regional footprint.
