Barbados’ Ambassador to CARICOM, David Comissiong, is hopeful Haiti and the Dominican Republic can find a way to coexist.
He was commenting on the Dominican Republic’s announcement earlier this month that it would be expelling 10,000 immigrants a week.
Haiti lodged a complaint with the Organisation of American States as a result, but according to Ambassador Comissiong has not yet approached CARICOM on the matter.
However, the DR has applied for Associate Membership of CARICOM.
Ambassador Comissiong, who is part of a Technical Working Group considering the application, says this latest development will have to be factored in.
