The Barbados Fire Service is broadening its scope to include other skill sets within its cadet programme.
So says Minister of Home Affairs Wilfred Abrahams who is encouraging more interested people to apply to the programme.
As it is a launching pad for exposure to a myriad of career options.
Minister Abrahams made the remarks during a church service to start Fire Service Week at the Bethel Methodist Church in Bay Street.
Minister Abraham believes more recognition needs to be given to fire officers for their heroic acts.
He notes that officers go out on a limb daily in offering help to people in distress without considering their own wellbeing.
