A leading health specialist has expressed concern that diabetics in Barbados are continuing to find it tough to eat healthy, due to the high cost of living, which is hampering their ability to make healthy choices.
That’s according Clinical Nursing Officer and Diabetes Specialist at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Deborah Knight.
She says a change in eating habits is what is required, however, this remains impractical for many families which are forced to prioritise lifestyle variables as they struggle to make ends meet.
Ms. Knight made the remark yesterday on the QEH’s Pulse Radio Show on Q 100.7 FM.
Consultant Physician and Endocrinologist at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Dr. Michael Krimholtz lamented the number of people still having to attend the hospital for diabetes.
According to the diabetes specialist, this is not the best cost-efficient way to be treating the disease.
